Elena Tomilova is a Moldovan artist who combines figurative and abstract painting, symbolism, and playful experimentation with materials. She started with classical oil painting, then became fascinated by acrylics and experimentation, and now freely mixes different techniques, adding texture, multiple layers, and gold leaf to her works.
One of her signature approaches is a multi-layer “fairy-tale” technique: the first layer is always abstract and intuitive, almost like art therapy, where you can simply pour out your mood and feelings. From these spots, lines, and textures, images gradually emerge – female figures, fairy-tale scenes, landscapes, or pure abstraction. The final result is often unexpected even for Elena herself, and that’s part of its charm.
Her art speaks a lot about femininity, the body and the soul, the connection between the inner and outer world, the simple joys of life, and subtle emotional states. Elena regularly takes part in international exhibitions and art projects in different countries, and she also performs as a circus artist – which is why a sense of plasticity, movement, and living presence is always felt in her paintings. This same experience of freedom, play, and gentle attention to the inner world is what she brings into her workshops.
